Mix Quantities

The mix quantities are the estimated quantities of cement, water, fine and coarse aggregates, which will make a concrete that fulfils the mix design requirements.

  • See Specification of a Concrete Mix.
  • The mix quantities are listed in the last section of the mix design form. They are calculated for a cubic metre (or cubic yard) of freshly mixed concrete and for the actual batch volume. The mix quantities assume that the aggregate is in the condition (saturated and surface-dry condition or dry), for which the coarse aggregate density has been set. See Measured Aggregate Density.

If Laboratory Measurements have been used in the mix design, quantities of coarse aggregate are output for the specified sieve sizes and percents passing. Otherwise quantities of coarse aggregate are output for standard sieve sizes and typical percents passing to match the maximum aggregate size.

You can select for the required mix quantities to be output either to full precision, or rounded to the nearest kg or lb, or rounded to the nearest 5 kg or lb.

  • See Settings.
  • Firstmix can also output a mix recipe, which provides detailed mix quantities. If Laboratory Measurements have been used in the mix design, quantities are given for the specified aggregate sieve sizes. In addition, if Laboratory Measurements have been used, a mix recipe gives quantities not only for the aggregate in the saturated, surface-dry condition but also for the dry and ‘as is’ conditions.

A mix recipe may be printed with the Print command or viewed with the Print Preview command. See File menu.
